RUARI BLACK

Ruari Black

Ruari started playing at his local band in North Berwick at the age of 8.
There he received tuition from members of the band, including his Dad and Grandpa.

Ruari later joined Preston Lodge High School Pipe Band where he was taught by Lee Moore.

He competed in the Novice Juvenile band and the Juvenile band at all the major competitions which is where he first heard St.Laurence O’Toole.

In his last year at school Ruari became pupil Pipe Major of PLHS Pipe Band.
Ruari joined SLOT in 2019 but had been tuning drones at practices and competitions for a couple of years prior.

When Ruari left school he started working at Kilberry Bagpipes to pursue a career in bagpipe making and tutoring.

Ruari makes his own sets of pipes, L.D Bagpipes, and plays them in the band.
He’s currently playing a set of pipes made from mopane, a different wood with superb tone.
