RONAN MAGUIRE

Ronan Maguire

Ronan started his piping career at the age of 9 with tuition from his father, Joe, in his local band, St.Kevin's Pipe Band, Bray.

He signed up with the St. Laurence O'Toole in 1985 – first as guest player at the Lorient Festival and then as a permanent member – and since that time has seen the band rise from Grade 2 to the pinnacle of Grade 1.

He spent 16 years as Pipe Sergeant from 1988 to 2004 and as a soloist won all the prizes available in Ireland at one point or another – including the All Ireland, Ulster, Leinster, Piper of the Year and the MacAllan Trophy in Lorient.
He also competed at both the Argyllshire Gathering and Northern Meeting Piping Competitions, taking prizes is the Silver Medal and S&R in 1998.

Influences on his solo piping have been his Dad, Joe Maguire, the late Stephen Power(ex- 1st Batt. Scots Guards) plus the late Ronnie Morrison, and from a band perspective, P/M Terry Tully and P/M Bill Livingstone.

He now runs Maguire Bagpipe Supplies and spends a lot of his spare time providing tuition to the next generation of pipers that are emerging at home.
