Mick started his piping at the age of 12 with his local band in Gorey, Co. Wexford, under P/M Tom Doyle.
In 1997, Michael joined St. Joseph's, Clondalkin and in 2000 he played with Lord Edward's Own, Narraghmore.
In 2007, he decided it was time to try get into the O'Toole's – and he's been with the band ever since.
Tuition along the way came from Ronan Maguire who helped him win a few IPBA league solos, but many people have inspired and influenced his piping career along the way, especially Terry Tully.
Michael's most memorable time in SLOT was in 2010, when the band won the All Ireland, European and World Championships.
