Julian started piping at the age of 14 with St. Colmcille's Pipe Band in Tallaght, Co. Dublin and he was tutored initially by Denis McLaughlin and Mick Nolan.
He joined Fintan Lalor Pipe Band in 1985, but then moved across the Liffey and joined St. Laurence O'Toole in August 1986, where he played with the band until the end of the 2004 season.
The piping bug never went away though, and he jumped at the opportunity to rejoin the O'Toole's in September 2017.
A keen solo player, he has had lessons from Ronan Maguire, Gordon Walker, and Roddy MacLeod.
His standout piping memory is the 78th Fraser Highlanders playing their No.1 MSR outside the Wolfson Hall residence the night before they won the World's in 1987.
Absolute pipe band alchemy.........pure magic.
